Description
After the Petrinja earthquake in December 2020, 442 individual immovable cultural properties were damaged, including 124 cultural heritage buildings (28 percent) that suffered heavy structural damage. The largest number of damaged cultural heritage buildings refers to sacral buildings, mainly churches and chapels. In this paper, a brief overview of damage to several sacral buildings after the earthquakes in Croatia will be presented. The failure patterns will be presented in several case studies. In addition, a special focus will be set on the full renovation process of one existing church - from assessment and modeling to full seismic upgrading of the existing heritage-protected church.
