Description
Conventional bolt welded to a steel base and embedded in concrete have been common method for transferring force between the steel and concrete materials in composite construction in countries of Latin America. This type of anchor has been used in little and middle constructions to replace the headed steel stud due to its complex install process, which require special equipment of high voltage.
This type of anchor is also used in lateral load resisting composite systems. Natural cyclic loads of earthquakes make that the connectors will be subjected to alternate shear forces. For this reason, the cyclic behavior of shear connectors is particularly important in these systems.
A series of experimental tests on composite push-out specimens whit welded bolt shear connectors were performed to investigate the behavior of shear connectors subjected to fully reversed cyclic load. Of specific interest was the behavior under low-cycle fatigue. Reversed cyclic loading resulted in a reduction in shear connector capacity compared to static capacities.
