SEE YOU IN OPATIJA

4CroCEE will take place in Opatija, one of the most elegant historic seaside destinations on the Adriatic coast, located in the heart of the Kvarner region and closely connected with the city of Rijeka, the academic and scientific centre of the area. Known for its rich Austro-Hungarian heritage, grand villas, beautiful parks and the famous Lungomare promenade, Opatija offers a blend of architectural charm, Mediterranean atmosphere and coastal scenery. The wider Kvarner region is distinguished by cultural and architectural diversity shaped by centuries of influence from different states, empires and traditions. From Austro-Hungarian seaside villas and Italian urban layers to Croatian coastal heritage and Central European elegance, the region offers a unique historical setting that reflects the rich complexity of this part of Europe. Just a short drive away, Rijeka, the third largest city in Croatia and home to the University of Rijeka, brings a strong academic and engineering identity to the conference. With its long industrial tradition, vibrant port and growing international research community, Rijeka provides the scientific backbone for the next Croatian Conference on Earthquake Engineering. The conference will be hosted at the Grand Hotel 4 Opatijska Cvijeta, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, while the programme will also include the Shake Table Contest at the University of Rijeka Campus, offering students and young researchers an opportunity to combine experimental creativity with earthquake engineering principles and test them in practice. Beyond the conference itself, the location offers excellent opportunities for short excursions. Within an hour, participants can explore the historic towns and landscapes of Istria, visit nearby islands such as Krk and Cres, or enjoy the coastal towns and natural beauty of the wider Kvarner Bay. We look forward to bringing together research, innovation and engineering excellence and the cultural richness of Kvarner — and to shaking the region with nothing but knowledge!

 CROATIA

Croatia is a land of rich cultural heritage, numerous museums, galleries and churches, many of which today, as zero category monuments, are included in a part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. In that magical place on the Mediterranean, even the shortest stroll becomes a journey down a staircase thousands of years old which take one through a history that is at the same time turbulent, exciting and glorious. With 8 national parks and 11 Parks of nature, Croatia is one of the ecologically best preserved parts of Europe. The mainland covers an area of 56 594 km2 and coastal waters cover a surface area of 31 479 km2 where Croatia’s shoreline and its 1 244 islands enjoy the majority of the Adriatic coastline.
