Description

Presented is an energy dissipation analysis based design and assessment approach for earthquake soil structure interacting systems. Energy dissipation calculations are based on proper thermodynamics considerations and are developed and implemented for all components of the soil-structure system. An example is used to describe use of energy dissipation calculations for analyzing alternative structural designs. A number of references are listed that provide more in depth description of the energy dissipation analysis approach.
